Sreerama Chandra, the gifted singer who shot to fame after winning Indian Idol season 5, is celebrating his birthday today. Hailing from Andhra Pradesh, his musical journey began even before his reality show triumph. In 2006, renowned music director Mickey J Meyer spotted his talent and gave him the opportunity to sing for the movie Notebook.
His Indian Idol win proved to be a turning point, paving the way for his appearances in several Telugu films and his melodious contributions to Bollywood hits like Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. As he adds another year to his life, it’s the perfect occasion to revisit his inspiring journey from a reality show champion to a celebrated artist in the entertainment world.
Sreerama was crowned the winner of Indian Idol season 5 in 2010. The moment became even more memorable as Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan presented him with the champion’s trophy.
During the grand finale, he also earned the chance to collaborate with Yash Raj Films (YRF) and secured a year-long contract to sing with Sony Music.
After winning Indian Idol Season 5, Sreerama Chandra made his Bollywood debut in 2011 with the movie Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, starring Imran Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Ali Zafar.
He lent his voice to two popular tracks, Madhubala and the remix of Isq Risk.
His next breakthrough came with Himesh Reshammiya’s composition Balma from Akshay Kumar’s Khiladi 786.
Over the years, Sreerama has continued to captivate audiences with his melodious voice, contributing to chartbusters from films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, All Is Well, 1920: London, Sanam Teri Kasam, Raees, Race 3, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and most recently, Kartik Aaryan’s Chandu Champion.
In 2013, Sreerama Chandra ventured into acting with his debut in the Telugu film Sri Jagadguru Adi Shankara and later starred in Prema Geema Jantha Nai. His versatility and charisma garnered further attention when he participated in Bigg Boss Telugu Season 5 in 2021, where he finished as the 2nd runner-up, backed by a massive fan following.
In 2024, Sreerama showcased his dancing prowess on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11, teaming up with dancer Sonali Kar and winning hearts with his performances.
