Bollywood actor Harshvardhan Rane is on cloud nine as the re-release of his movie ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ did wonders at the box office. The movie bombed when it was released way back in 2016. But it appears, the maker’s calculations worked magic at the box office upon its re-release. How else would you explain the humongous box office figures? ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ has broken all records to become the highest-grossing Indian re-release. As per a trade report, the movie has earned a whopping Rs 33 crore with the domestic net at Rs 41.35 crores and worldwide gross at Rs 53 crores.

DC caught up with lead actor Harshvardhan Rane to find out what about the movie appealed to the modern audience. The actor’s eyes sparkle with excitement as he talks about the re-release, “I am extremely excited, not for anything else but for my producer. I feel that till the producer won’t win, nothing will win.”

The actor believes that love is always relevant and that’s what makes ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ special. “How can we ignore the heart? It is always relevant, love is always relevant. What else is there in the world?”

As for the audience response, Harshvardhan says, “We are seeing something never seen before.”

When asked about his approach to choosing projects, Harshvardhan emphasises the importance of working with producers who have a strong spine. “I look for a producer with a strong spine.” He believes that this is crucial for creating content that resonates with audiences.

Harshvardhan is also particular about the kind of content he associates himself with. He prefers to avoid projects with excessive abuse, make-out scenes, and gore. “I don’t want to be in films and series which have abuses. I do understand that you can do aggression cinematically. But if you are doing it just to grab eyeballs, then I don’t connect with that kind of content.”

The actor is open to working in both Bollywood and Tollywood, as long as the project is cinematic and has a strong producer. “For me, it is never about what I am going to get out of it. I feel how big the world is, how world-building it is and how strong the producer is.”

Harshvardhan has a nuanced view of the OTT space, appreciating shows like ‘Panchayat’ and ‘Mehta Boys’ that eschew excessive content. “If I have to watch something on OTT, I watch that else, avoid.”

Looking ahead, Harshvardhan is keen to work on projects that balance substance, cinematic appeal, and profitability. He is also eager to do a sequel to ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’.
