A clothing ad filmed on the wedding day of two reality TV stars has been banned for glamorising smoking, the advertising watchdog has said.

The video was posted on Instagram by The Only Way is Essex alum Ercan Ramadan on 3 October last year and shared by his wife Vicky Pattison, a former star of Geordie Shore.

It featured Ramadan and seven groomsmen with cigars.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said the advert was banned for presenting smoking as “part of a glamourous and aspirational lifestyle”.

The watchdog upheld two complaints about the video, with one saying it glamorised smoking and another about it not being clearly marked as an “ad”.

It said: “While we acknowledged the ad was for menswear products, we considered that the ad’s principal focus was on smoking and that it was depicted as an enjoyable group activity.

“We considered that the use of slow motion, the formal setting and the jazz-style music added to the stylised and aspirational tone.”

The watchdog added: “The ads must not appear again in the form complained of.”
